This Peters, is like a turehu (a term a maori woman told me years ago in the pub, for certain Maori "whakahihi" (High Up If I recall) types) - time for him to show his Mana in Maori te reo. Since he is prominent Maori - which eludes him I think. Perhaps start as a elder for his Marae? Will Tamahere and Jackson agree? They talk, sometimes jokingly, about him on radio sometimes... Actually I'd rather hear maori spoken in our lands in future, rather than other cultures/ethic groups, which are increasingly landing and seemingly dominating certain jobs, suburbs, and schools in our once only Maori-Euro/Pakeha country. Three suburbs around us are changing in appearance. Long gone are our Kiwi stores. The big Aussie companies displaced them - Bunnings, Mitre10, Super Cheap, and our own The Warehouse. Now foreigners are filling the stores up. What I don't get why Maori today, seem to lack interest/or don't speak in their language. Considering, been here for centuries. Yet a German, Indian, Hispanic, Asian, Samoan, etc, are likely to speak their native language... |
