1437642 2017-07-26 20:54:00 I use to transfer heaps of music from stereo tape to PC using the double 3.5mm plug described above. Then convert to MP3/Wave files using Music Match (Jukebox), Goldwave, Cool Edit Pro, etc. Issue you might come cross is removing, clicks, pops, noise, etc. Then tweaking the volume up, and adding reverb, boosting, etc. Can be tedious and time consuming - unless if create a template to auto do it. Then splitting tracks several tracks, though some software do it automatically. kahawai chaser (3545)
1437643 2017-07-26 22:05:00 If the tape recorder has RCA plugs on it, get a "RCA to 3.5 mm cable." Plug the 3.5 into the microphone jackpoint on the computor. Whenu (9358)

I think you'll find that the input is a 3 or 4 pole. Ie, it may do left, right and microphone off one plug, sometimes a control line as well.

1437646 2017-07-28 01:37:00 Tell us the model/type of your laptop so that we can look for config data. There may be some software way to swap the audio between in and out.
Otherwise forget the PC and try a pair of mains-powered portable speakers plugged in to your player. I see portable speakers on TradeMe for $10.

Laaptop Toshiba satellite P50-C. Part No- PSPT 2A ooeoo1. As before it only has one round 3.5mm hole not colour banded. I pulled up the pictuer of the gadet on PBTec . USB on one end two holes on the other. Orannge with microphone symbol . Green with Headphone symbol. So I think I will have to get one of those. The other thing is, I do have a lead with 3.5 plugs at each end. I hadnnt dared to connect the the tape player directly to the computer using that in case I did some PJ damage.
My Daughter is coming down from Katikati in a couple of weeks & I will bludge on her credit card.

To all who have helped Thankyou. PJ

1437648 2017-07-30 01:42:00 You don't need any adapter at all - the "one round 3.5mm socket" you said is in fact input AND output

Check the specs on your laptop!!

1 × external Headphone (stereo) / Microphone combo socket

Hi....I did the research on the "Combo Audio" socket on the Laptop. Then I googled it & got an explanation & a picture. The regular audio plug has 3 connections, The combo has 4. I am assuming the extra one is 'Input" or microphone. On the other end in a small container are two 3.5 holes, the legends on it are Mic & Phones. The one that PBTech has is the same except a USB instead of the combo plug

What I am hoping to do is connect the regular 3.5 lead into the tape recorder, the other end into the 3.5 microphone hole in the adapter & the longer 4 connector plug into the computer. That should get me sound into the computer somewhere. But that's another question. I will probably have to use Audacity or something like that. PJ
