1437669 2017-07-26 10:21:00 I an not a Winston peters fan, but today I watched Parliament's Question Time and was disgusted at the behaviour of the Maori Party co-leader Te Ururoa.

It is estimated that only 3% of New Zealander's are fluent in Te Reo Maori.

What a joke to watch and listen to this effluent.

1437670 2017-07-26 20:35:00 But...Winston's a Maori from Nga Puhi - I suspect - from Northland - yet in nearly forty years in parliament he's never - or should he - say Kia Ora. He might be hiding the fact he can speak Maori too. Will he ever admit so? Also I'm sure he's had hidden agenda's... kahawai chaser (3545)
1437671 2017-07-26 20:46:00 He is also half Scottish(mother European),the whole family has lent more to European than Maori

When on the farm our neighbour was Winston's nephew Milton Peters, great guy

This is somehow the fault of the Pakeha , so they expect us to throw money at it & force it on the non Maori population (at schools)

When even the majority of Maori themselves have abandoned the language, and the majority of Maori will make no efforts themselves to learn it.....

When the Majority of Maori (not just a few elites) will take time to learn it , and can speak it fluently , only then make it a 2nd official language

rant over :)

What a joke to watch and listen to this effluent.I agree with you 100%. I watch Question Time and this has always annoyed me as I have been unable to get the translation to work.

As Winston Peters pointed out what about those who are listening on Radio. It has become a bit of a joke.

1437674 2017-07-27 00:29:00 With roughly 125,000 people in the world that can speak Maori, and roughly 40,000,000 that can speak Swahili, I suggest we would be better off teaching Swahili.

As a means of communication the Maori language is at best useless, other than in the deepest darkest Urewera’s.

1437675 2017-07-27 01:26:00 Yes calling Maori an official language really is a joke.

Most Maoris don't want to speak it, or cant be bothered to learn it

Its just left wing politicians that want to force it down our throats.

It must cost a fortune to translate it and record it in Hansard etc.

As an aide every time I hear of Aoeteroa this organisation or Aoeteroa that I get really annoyed.

The name of our country is New Zealand

Very true. I get pissed off by the social engineering weather forecasters on One and Three news who insist on calling New Zealand, Aoeteroa and certain cities like Auckland by their Maori place names.

It would also be more advantageous to learn Mandarin or Cantonese. What use is Maori? None.

If you want to learn Maori then go ahead, but don't push it on those who have no interest, which is the majority. I am against teaching Maori in schools unless it is not compulsory. Unfortunately, according to my school teacher daughter, it soon will be mandatory.

I agree, I’d never heard of a place called “Wai tem ata” until the other day.
