| 1437294 | 2017-07-17 04:14:00 | What this CONTINUED cal fro bannign plastic supermarket bags ? I like getting them, as I find them useful around the house as rubbish bin liners. I do not litter anywhere with them. And none of mine end up in the sea. They don't take up much room in a landfill and they do rot away after a few years. And each week I put 3 or 4 into my rubbish wheelie bin full of small bits of rubbish. Do what Singapore does and chase the litterers. |

They account for an amazing tonnage of waste every year, trouble is there is no comparable product to replace them with. I have used reusable ones and they are fine, but less convenient and I never remember to take them with me. And you can't line your bin with them. |

| 1437302 | 2017-07-17 20:59:00 | They don't really rot...they do become brittle and break up into very small pieces, all plastic does that. Used for rubbish or not, how do you know what happens to them after your bin has been collected? I've seen plastic bags blowing around at the tip.... We have enough pollution now....it is possible to make similar stuff from biodegradable materials, corn for instance. But I guess it's cost.... And we know the world runs on cheap for the manufacturer... We did manage before plastic, even I remember paper rubbish bags, and paper supermarket bags. |
