1437251 2017-07-16 22:26:00 I have an older Canon Printer. I wish to read the manuals on the DVD installation disk but have made an error in stipulating MS Edge to enable me to read the file. This doesn't work and I need to be able to use something else to read the file. I cannot work out how to make the change of reader to see the file. Any help would be appreciated, thanks. Bryan (147)
1437252 2017-07-16 22:57:00 Right click the file, choose open with, choose default program, see if you can find the right one listed and select it. There are other methods depending on what OS version also. dugimodo (138)
1437253 2017-07-17 00:17:00 Alternatively open the programe you wish to use and then open the file from within it. CliveM (6007)

Windows10 will try & force you to use Edge to open pdf's . You need to change the default back to Acrobat reader (you'll need to google how)
Also. make sure you have acrobat reader installed

...all assuming its a pdf file

1437255 2017-07-17 01:03:00 To change the default Program.

1st make sure you have a PDF program/reader installed.

In search type in Default From the results look for "Choose default Applications by File type". when the window loads, scroll down to .pdf, click the edge icon, and all other programs will show, click on the PDF reader you have installed, if Edge prompts, click Change anyway. Done, now the PDF's will open by default to what ever reader you selected.

1437256 2017-07-17 05:12:00 I like windows 10 - but to me it's worst habit is that it sometimes resets the defaults with major updates. I still prefer the right click method to fix it myself - it's consistent across multiple versions of windows.
Anyway one of these should work, but it might change back one day so remember how you did it.

1437257 2017-07-17 05:20:00 Thanks everyone. I noticed that the file on the CD was html. I used the Win10 settings "Choose default Applications by File type" and changed the browser to Pale Moon. I was then able to read the file. It was a one off so no on-going damage. Thanks again. Bryan (147)
