768007 2009-04-24 03:53:00 This desktop Acer computer running Vista Home Prem is badly corrupted and it hasn't got a recovery DVD. Tried ALT + F10 to launch the recovery from HDD but nothing happens.

What other key combination can I tried to launch the recovery program?

768008 2009-04-24 03:59:00 Look in the menu and see if theres a program to create the dvds / whatever.

You'll need blank DVD's to create the recovery DVD's (or cd's)

But, I can't even start Windows.

Have tried all those options: Safe Mode, last known good ...... etc., all failed to start.

768010 2009-04-24 04:26:00 Only thing you can do then, is connect it to a working system, see if there's a hidden partition on it. If there is, go into it, see if there are any ISO's in it. if there's is, copy them to the working system then burn them

And if it's got no hidden partition or ISO's on it. Not much else you can do except buy another version of Windows, then reinstall it.

Or install Linux on it

768011 2009-04-24 04:27:00 Download the Vista recovery CD, boot into, and perform a startup repair, then a chkdsk /r /f at the cmd

neosmart.net

Alternatively, use any vista DVD

If you don't have a manual then get one from here:-
www.nodevice.com

I'd do it myself but you have to register.

Got hold of a copy of Windows Vista, re-installed and activated, all fine.

Checked and found that the hidden partition (recovery partition?) is still there.

Interested to make a copy of the ISO file but could see nothing in there. Have unchecked: Hide protected operating system files, and, ticked 'Show hidden files and folders.

Do I need to take the HDD out and connect it to another PC to 'see' the hidden partition?

768014 2009-04-24 07:23:00 Well you would have to connect it to another PC (since it didnt boot into windows).

I have no idea what to do in Vista, never used it. First you say you found the partition then you said you couldnt find it. So, how do you know its still there then?

Speedy, sorry for not making myself clear enough to you. I managed to get hold of an installation Vista Home Premium DVD and re-installed and activated the OS using the COA set of keys.

I checked from Manage Computer/ disk management and 'saw' recovery partition (supposedly) of 9.76 GB - (EISA Configuration). Is this the recovery partition?

But when I go to My computer, this partition (9.76 GB) isn't visible even with 'Hide protected operating system files unticked and 'show hidden files and folders ticked.

As I have tried all the key combinations when booting up to bring up the system recovery program without any luck, I am keen to make a recovery DVD from the ISO files in the recovery partition for future use.

768016 2009-04-24 09:40:00 In Disk management is this partition showing as a basic or dynamic disk? Speedy Gonzales (78)
