595667 2007-09-27 10:07:00 Hi all,

I have an all-perspex case, totally see-through and that, and their drive racks are different compared to normal ATX case drive racks. Because of that, I need special screws that are attached to the HDD, then normal but longer screws are attached to these special screws to lock the HDD in the rack.

I need 8, and if anyone has some to spare, I will kiss your feet and worship you as god. I will pay for postage, and will also pay for these special screws if you're that way inclined.

Thanks in advance!

Attached file: Sunbeam_Acrylic_Case_11.jpg (www.imagef1.net.nz) (35 KB)

The screw in particular is the one at the bottom, not the two top ones.

And here's a pic of what it should look like with the HDD installed:

Oh, and I've just learned that they are called standoffs.

595669 2007-09-27 11:32:00 Theyre similar to what you mount on mobos, (between the mobo and the case).

So, it doesnt short out. But shorter.

Theyre also called spacers.

They maybe similar to these (www.dse.co.nz)

Or these (www.jaycar.co.nz)

595670 2007-09-27 12:48:00 firstly, it's not perspex; it's acrylic

secondly, i have such a case, but sorry no spare screws... i have a proper hard drive part, so only need to use normal screws over 5mm long

thirdly, isn't it a pain having to remove the motherboard and PSU suppot to simply swap a drive around? poor design.... and does your mobo fit the I/O panel or do the mount things seem to be a few mm out? i know mine are:annoyed:

595671 2007-09-27 13:07:00 Yeah, these cases are a real pain. Installing motherboards require you to remove the side panel and be careful not to break it.

Not only that, being completely see-through, dust and dirt is striking. And cleaning them is a pain also. :(

I think I need a new case....but have no money.

Oh, and MB - I don't even have an I/O panel lol. It didn't come with any backpanel.

595672 2007-09-27 14:12:00 my mobo came with a panel of it's own, but plugging it into the case it won't line up with the mobo... the csae did come with a copper backpanel though, so all my video/pci cards are properly secured

and at a LAN party a mate of mine thought it was funny to feed toilet paper into my case via a fan. lots came out via exhaust fans (to his delight), some still remains in the computer (again a desired outcome).... this case with all it's cathode fans etc seems to catch/kill alot of bugs too lol

and don't worry about breaking the case; acrylic is surprisingly strong - it's not anywhere near as fragile as glass, but it can scratch alot easier than glass. you're more likely to ruin a metal case (well, a cheap one <$150)

the biggest modification i want to make is getting a new side lasercut with the fans in different places (120mm over video, maybe 80mm over ram) as my cpu cooler means i can't fit a fan in the top 80mm hole and you can instead poke your finger in

Just a small correction to your contributions

Perspex IS acrylic, it is a brand name(ICI) for acrylic sheet

595674 2007-09-28 07:26:00 lol, my bad

i was getting perspex confused with plexiglass

595675 2007-09-28 11:17:00 Hmmm, I think I will be buying a new PC case. However, I want a side-window case and preferably the price floats at $80 max.

Anybody got a Soprano lying around?
