594987 2007-09-25 22:34:00 Ok..............beetle having one of those weeks............lol

Need to fix the brakes on my Jeep. but was told can do the front ones and then later the back ones.... comes down to cost.........
My washing machine flooded the laundry twice yesterday...... got a plumbers bill, (not for washing machine) washing machine man is due to arrive shortly..:( and a dog bill, and all the other bills i have incured this week........ so cost is the priority......

Is it ok to do one set at a time?

there is one other prob........ i cannot undo the wheel nuts, or actually get the wheels off..due to weight or lack of strenght.......... once i find the jack and stuff :p i guess........ thats what big brothers come in handy for:p

Just asking before i get in any more hot water.so to speak..

washouse floor will be lovely and clean once the water drains away....lol

594989 2007-09-25 23:08:00 Maybe we should get a mobil mechanic to make a house call (I am available . . call me) . .

But . . . YES . . . if the brakes are worn out in the front, then you can do just the fronts . . . or the same flip-flop for the rears . . they can be done "one axle at a time" as we call it .

Typically, the front brakes will wear out 2 or 3 times to just a single set of rear brakes . In the US, we see higher wear on the right front brake . . . but that's because we drive on the right side and that right wheel turns faster and a longer distance on left turns when most people are riding the brakes as a precaution . Not a good idea, but it is done .

CAVEAT here . . . . . do NOT do a one-sided brake job or repair . There are exceptions, but let's talk generally here .

If you do just a left or right side, then you get an imbalance in the brakes that MIGHT cause an "E-ticket" ride .

You DO remember "E-tickets" . . . right?

594991 2007-09-25 23:16:00 The "pairs" would be a set for the front or a set for the rear...not the left side or the right side.

E-tickets are an old way of buying rides at Disneyland, The highest cost ones for the Matterhorn and other big ticket rides were E's, scaled from "A" to "E" in cost/thrill value.
