Essentially people who spent over $1000 on getting an unlocked phone, could end up with a brick if they update the firmware, which you have to do if you want the latest software such as the itune wifi store. More of a problem with the people who are selling these, they could be out a lot of money.

594628 2007-09-25 03:18:00 Still, hacking and having it not working, hacking and then having it not work will get tedious VERY quickly.

Shame, buy something decent next time to all those people who wasted their money.

Just like Sony PSP.

Oh ... people in HK not only unlocked the iphone SIM, but changed the language interface to Chinese as well plus mp3 ringtone ...

I wouldn't buy one at the moment for that reason. I see parallel imported with a big ad in the herald for iPhones.

If you're thinking of buying one, think twice about what Parallel Imported will do about fixing it under warranty . . . then think again what they are likely to say after the phone has been hacked to make it useable .

From my experience those guys have NZ's worst customer service full stop . :yuck:

And do you really think the NZ Apple repair agents would touch a parallel imported phone that was faulty unless you forked out good money to get it fixed?

Agree 100% First the iPhone is not supported in NZ or by non authorised 3rd party resellers, 2nd your on your own when you hack it so if you stuff up your left with a $1000 paper weight, 4th - Parallel Importers are not famous for their customer support .

Sorry mis counted, should have been 3rd point. Point 1 comprised of 2 points.;)
Also considering that iPhones sell in the US for $399 ($535.93NZ) the advertised price of NZ$1,199? unsupported by way of ISP or customer support is disgusting.:angry
