2007-09-27 20:09:00 | If I see a motorbike coming up behind me I always move as far left as possible so that they can pass me without crossing the centre line if possible. Most of them will give a wave as they pass to say thanks. Following on from motorbyclist about the slow drivers, I think there should be a law against trucks passing other trucks when there is traffic behind them. I drive to Auckland quite a bit from Whangarei and find it so frustrating when following two trucks and you get to a passing lane only to have the 2nd truck use the whole thing passing the 1st truck. If you're lucky you might be able to get passed one truck but usually not.

2007-09-27 22:39:00 | Living on the edge of West Auckland it used to be a 20 minutes drive to my daughter's house (they sold a few months ago). West Coast Road was dynamite - very easy to pick up one or two tickets. I finally worked out why. Our road is open road and twisty so we drive to the conditions (as low as 20km an hour if foggy or 80 on some of the better stretches if not). Then there is the 80km stretch with the hill. Then it is down to 50, back up to a max of 80 (usually less) on another open twisty road. Henderson Valley Road is open and a fast road to drive then, with no change to the road conditions - just more built up, it is down to 50. Very, very hard to do 50 on this bit when you've spent over half the trip driving to the conditions. You end up with more eyes on the speedo to keep your speed down than eyes on the road! I go through there a few times a day on way from Swanson through Candia rd. When I see the sign about 100 yards out I put on the exhaust brake at the sign I would be around 30 mph. tedheath

2007-09-28 07:40:00 | so you slam on an engine brake 30metres from the sign and reduce speed from what i assume was 70 or 80kph down to 50kph? METRIC, please! my young mind can't comprehend imperial edit: silly me 30m doesn't equal 100yards... it's about 100m isn't it?

2007-09-28 10:28:00 | well it was to get 30kph off in 30m and you could "slam" it into 1st gear i suppose

2007-09-28 11:19:00 | Oh the younger generation <shakes head sadly> mph = miles per hour km/hr = kilometres per hour 30 mph = 50 km/hr 50 mph = 80 km/hr Five eights of a mile = 1 kilometre 1 mile = 1.609344 kilometres 100 yards = 91.44 metres And if you're still confused - go ask your cellphone. Conversions may be on it somewhere.

2007-10-02 20:21:00 | I got a ticket on Saturday night - a pig was parked under a tree on the side of a road, which should be 70kmh and is 50kmh, no lights or houses, my mind was wandering and I wasn't watching my speed. Pig pulled me over, $120 fine ***!! I proceeded to give him an extremely annoyed lecture about why he should be out catching the people who are actually dangerous, and causing problems, not sitting there revenue gathering, pulling people over on a bit of road, where the speed limit is too slow for the conditions.:angry He assured me the NZ police don't revenue gather, I asked him what he was doing, and he wasn't really sure what to say, apart from "making the roads a safer place". Idiot! I gave up then though cause he was getting rather annoyed, and I didn't want another fine for disturbing the peace, or whatever it is they do you for these days.    What was really ironic, is when I went into Westpac to pay the fine, the chick at the counter looked at the ticket and saw the road name printed there, and asked me if it was Saturday night I got booked. She had been tiketed for the same amount by the same cop about 30 mins later!!!!

Pig pulled me over, $120 fine ***!! Similar thing happend to me earlier this year. While on the way to work at 6:00am, I was driving down a very straight road (this is like 50KM away from the town - I live in teh country) and there are no other cars about. No people anywhere to be seen. I wasn't paying strict attention to my speed. And I happened to be going 116km/h down this road, and lo-and-behold, who is sitting there at 6 in the morning, a freaking PIG! I explained that it was a genuine mistake, and that I have never had a speeding ticket, and am usually a careful driver. "The law is the law" I was told. $120 later, and much german sounding words where spoken, I continued on my way to work.    Cops are so prejidice about younger people (guys in particular) driving smaller cars. I am not a boy racer by any stretch of the imagination, I drive a starlet, cos its cheap to run, and just cos I'm younger, I get grouped in with all the other retarded wana-be 'boy-racers' out there. ***! Me = great(hate).Cops(); |
