767959 2009-04-26 06:59:00 I might try Wine in it, then you can still have the best of both worlds. Pity, Wine doesnt work in 64 bit

Speedy - Wine does work extremely well from a 64bit environment / OS. I'm running it from Mepis 64 (Debian base) and it runs perfectly.

^ x2, but iirc it does drag in a few 32bit libraries.

767961 2009-04-26 07:59:00 Ah ok then, I read in a mag here, it didnt work in 64 bit (or maybe I read it wrong there isnt a 64 version of it)?

Might check out Ubuntu 64 bit in that case once I get some blanks

Probably what the mag was saying is that while wine itself will run just fine on a 64bit platform, it doesn't fully support 64bit Windows applications - that part is relatively new. See here (en.wikipedia.org(software)#64-bit_applications).

767963 2009-04-27 06:27:00 This is correct. That said, most people who don't care about workgroups tend to be the ones who access shares via the run box (\\ip.addy.of.pc\sharename or \\pcname\sharename). You can't drive the run box with a mouse, but it's usually a hell of a lot faster than clicking through the network browser.

I especially love it how when you click on a share it takes about 45seconds to load, freezing your fast PC until it realises that pc no longer exists on the network. Similar thing happens when you change IP in XP SP2. ipconfig shows your IP has changed. But the window breaks for ~30sec.:banana
