| 768603 | 2009-04-26 22:47:00 | Adobe: Someone explain to me why a program designed to display pdf files and only display pdf files thinks it needs updating so often? Because, despite what you may think, PDFs can be quite complicated with a lot of embedded links, videos, documents etc. Foxit doesn't support all of the functions that Acrobat does, so if you have fairly simple PDFs Foxit will be ok. Anything else, you'll need Acrobat. That said, I use Foxit as any PDFs I download are nothing complex & Adobe was just getting way too big. |

Because of new features Adobe adds to the creation of PDFs, so they have to update their reader accordingly (along with bug fixes). As previously mentioned, the PDF file format is very complicated, with lots of gotchas. When I last worked with reading PDFs, I was always playing catch up to be able to read a file created with Adobe's latest software. |
