768122 2009-04-25 07:27:00 newest build (not 100% sure if everything fits):

1 x Antec Three HundredTower Gaming Case [$117.00]
1 x Corsair 620W HX-620 ATX Power Supply [$193.00]
1 x AMD PHENOM II 720 TRIPLE-CORE 2.8GHz AM3 CPU [$232.00]
1 x Corsair TWIN2X4096-8500C5 4GB (2x XMS2 2GB) PC-8500 (1066MHz) DDR2 RAM [$109.00]
1 x ASUS M4A78T-E [$245.00]
1 x ASUS EAH4850-HTDI-512 [$243.00]
1 x Seagate 500G 3.5" CUDA7200.11,7200RPM,16MB,SATAII 1.5Gb/s,NCQ (ST3500418AS) [$95.00]
1 x Creative X-Fi Xtreme Audio [$70.00]
1 x ASUS 22xDVD-RW,12xDVD+-RW,40xCDRW,SATA,Lightscribe,DUAL PANEL [$43.00]
1 x Netgear FA311 10/100 Fast Ethernet PCI card [$27.00]
1 x Microsoft WINDOWS VISTA HOME PREMIUM 64-BIT DVD-OEM 1/PK SP1 [$190.00]
1 x Antec TriCool 120mm Case Fan with 3-Speed Switch [$27.00]

Comes out to $1591 all up including OS. Figure its a worthwhile investment as, like you said blam, I can always throw in another 4850 down the road if I feel I need it.
Any feedback? Is this the PC I should order today? or could i get more bang for my buck with different parts?

768123 2009-04-25 07:33:00 You dont need this

1 x Netgear FA311 10/100 Fast Ethernet PCI card [$27.00]

The mobo has a 10/100/1000 ethernet connection on it. And its got 8 channel sound onboard. And onboard VGA / DVI and HDMI. If you dont want to buy a videocard

768124 2009-04-25 07:40:00 Are you getting to the DDR2/3 version of that mobo? DDR2 would be better here, I've heard the performance difference isn't very much.

And DDR3 is still quite expensive.

How about the DFI LANPARTY DK P45-T2RS Intel P45 ATX?

Very overclockable and many good reveiws on it

You also don't need that NIC since all mobos pretty much hav 1/2 integrated NICs

You won't need the fan either, as the antect 300 is already very good for cooling:)

And are you sure you need a sound card? Motherbaords already have up to 7:1 HD audio, so that may be sufficient.

Are you planning to overclock in the future?

768125 2009-04-25 07:41:00 Ah ok thanks for that I read about the network card late last night but then wondered why they still included it on the list... stupid me, i've been staring at specs for too long... same goes for the sound card.
Although I would like a separate vid card as I do plan to do some gaming on the machine, I also run a lot of graphical software.

768126 2009-04-25 07:44:00 thanx blam as well i'll look into those boards now.
and while I'll prob end up overclocking in the future, not anytime soon... should i only get the fan if i OC?

768127 2009-04-25 07:48:00 If that hardware is enough for your needs currently, don't overclock or buy an aftermarket hsf. Overclocking reduces the life of the CPU and brings many risks, so if you don't need it now, don't do it.

And also, get a cooler later, when you feel the need to overclock. Chances are, at that time hsf's will be cheaper and better.

Or, just get a cheap cooler now for around 40 bucks, overclock a bit, then upgrade and overclock further later

Your Choice:)

768128 2009-04-25 09:24:00 Ok, I think I'm finally making some progress.
I'm almost certain that I'll go with the Phenom II 940 now after looking at various benchmarks. It seems a sound choice. This new gigabyte mobo also got some very good reviews so i think i'll go with it, even though i'm sure there isnt a huge difference between it and the asus equivalent. The only thing i'm not sure about yet is the video card. The SAPPHIRE HD4870 512M GDDR5 [$290.00] looks very tempting for the price but i'm not sure how well it'll go in a crossfire setup as i will almost def be throwing in a second card at some point. Any ideas on it? Or other vid card suggestions?

1 x Antec Three HundredTower Gaming Case [$117.00]
1 x Corsair 620W HX-620 ATX Power Supply [$193.00]
1 x AMD PHENOM II Quad Core 940 Black Edition CPU [$346.00]
1 x Corsair TWIN2X4096-8500C5 4GB (2x XMS2 2GB) PC-8500 (1066MHz) DDR2 RAM [$111.00]
1 x Gigabyte GA-MA790GP-UD4H [$228.00]
1 x Seagate 500G 3.5" CUDA7200.11,7200RPM,16MB,SATAII 1.5Gb/s,NCQ (ST3500418AS) [$95.00]
1 x ASUS 22xDVD-RW,12xDVD+-RW,40xCDRW,SATA,Lightscribe,DUAL PANEL [$43.00]
1 x Microsoft WINDOWS VISTA HOME PREMIUM 64-BIT DVD-OEM 1/PK SP1 [$190.00]

So far it totals $1323. I would like to keep it under the $1600 mark with the addition of a vid card. Any suggestions?

..And can i just say again thanks for ur help guys you've been great. I hope to place the order for this bad-boy tomorrow :D

768129 2009-04-25 09:31:00 You can go with the 4870 if you want, but go with an Asus or Gigabyte.

Adding an extra 4870 will give you mind blowing performance:D

768131 2009-04-25 10:32:00 Add one or two extra 120 mm case fans and put them in the front of the case. The Three Hundred comes with one top 140mm exhaust and one rear 120mm exhaust. It has two slots in the door for 120mm intakes. They create a nice airflow for cooling, and also bring air directly in over your hard drives. Brooko (8444)
