Why not? It is possible. They do exist. She sounds like she isn't too comp literate.

I go to every deviate website I can find. Download from all the shady places.
Downloaded mac scan and iantvirus yesterday just to check. No viruses no spyware and about 10 tracking cookies. iantvirus did however find 2 trojans on my fully patched xp vm.
So if I can't manage to get a virus from what I do, the OP must be really doing some dodgy **** to get one.

768039 2009-04-24 23:53:00 I have a Mac and yes, they can slow down and freeze. I have CLAMX AV for an antivirus for it. It has never found a virus yet.
I would say that the trouble would be that it has never been cleaned out. There is a Mac program you will need called "Main Menu", get it from the Apple site and when you open it, you can choose the temp files, history, browser caches etc to clear out, just like Ccleaner really.

Hope this helps! LL

768040 2009-04-25 01:13:00 Do you know how long this person has had their emac?
Cause remembering when they first came out it might be time for a defrag.
Macs also do need defraging, no operating system in the world does not, its just something that happens over time.
There are mac defrag programs but they are not free, I think i have a trial here somewhere. PM Me today after 5.30. Will see what i can find.
Do you know the OS?
To find out click on the apple symbol in the top left hand corner and then select About This Mac.
It will tell you the OS (eg 10.3.9) and the cpu (500mhz Powerpc G3) and the ram (192 mb SDRAM). If you post this i will see what i can do.

768041 2009-04-25 07:41:00 Here are some mac virus/trojan examples (www.sophos.com). To be fair a bit of a non-event.

Use something like Onyx (www.titanium.free.fr) to clear caches etc. Check your filesystem for permissions issues or filesystem problems (disk utility).

It also could be a sign of a dying hard drive (I've replaced quite a few failed eMac drives at work - they are real old these days). Check the system.log with the Console utility for stuff such as disk i/o errors etc.

iDefrag (www.coriolis-systems.com) if you really think fragmentation is an issue.
