The Oct issue of PCWorld mag has an article on page 111: "Rugby - it's better on Freeview". Reason given is the greater bandwidth on Freeview compared with Sky which has limits due to the many channels on it's satellite allocation.

With big screen TV prices falling, HD + digital tuners, and terrestrial freeview coming, I can see yet another techie item to shell out $$$$. :p

Oh yes in deed. I suspect Sky bitrate will get worse before it gets better. You know we need more crap chanels like Vibe and C&I plus lots more PPV to eat up the bandwidth.

Roll on Freeview with HD

594422 2007-09-25 21:27:00 The only thing that annoys me with the coverage is the hour's worth of bollocks before the game... annnnnnd... they repeat it at 6am! autechre (266)
594423 2007-09-26 20:52:00 I have been pretty disappointed with the coverage and quality of the WRC games.

It is like looking through the wrong end of binoculars at times - not many real good closeups of the action.

Just after the WC started there was commentary on TV3 (Campbell?) explaining why the camera work would not be up to scratch. Its because the camera guys in Europe are not used to doing rugby games. They also said that here in NZ we have the best camera guys, even better than Oz or SA.

594424 2007-09-27 06:39:00 We recently bought a new 20" LCD for the bach where we've got FreeView. Before going over there with it, we tried it out on our Saturn cable TV. The France Argentina game had just started. We remarked that the score in the top right corner was fuzzy and hard to read. We were not impressed with our new TV. When we got to the bach we connected the TV and the game was still going, BUT the score was sharp and easy to read, so it wasn't the TV, but the feed to the TV. FreeView is much sharper.
