Agreed.
A very interesting read there.
Thanks Wratterus ;)

594825 2007-10-03 02:18:00 Here (www.radardirect.co.nz) is a pretty decent FAQ for NZ.

Please bear in mind this conversation started by trying to avoid cops that are revenue gathering, not how to speed and get away with it. ;) Hmm, I will have a read of that.

Yes, that is correct... He he he

Me too, but I suspect that if you get caught speeding and you have a radar detector, they'll take a VERY dim view of you... Ha ha, but they are legal ;) ... So they shouldn't...

594826 2007-10-05 04:29:00 I've only read the 1st and last age of the thread but I would have to say that the reason they put the speed camera where they did was to catch people like you who speed up prior to the sign posted speed limit.

Regardless of whether you were endangering anyone or not you should have not been going over the speed limit in the 1st place. Pay your fine and learn from your actions...

Consider this... what if one of your loved ones or friends was knocked over and killed by some person speeding up to 70km/h, 100m from the actual sign post speed limit area... would you be complaining then or would you be yelling at the governemnt, police or speeders because of what happened to your mate, loved one etc.

The truth is that according to the Traffic Regs what you did was breaking the law... you got caught... now pay the fine...

cheers

594827 2007-10-07 15:11:00 If they want you to be doing a decreased speed at the point of passing the sign, then they must also want you to be accelerated up to the new speed at the same point.

They cannot have it both ways. It's simple...where would they prefer you increase and decrease your speed...before or after the sign?

It's hard to be instantly in compliance with the speed of the sign AT the sign in either case.

There's the letter of the law and the spirit of the law.

There must be a sensible deceleration and acceleration zone just prior to or immediately after the sign.

Any lack of that consideration is a speed trap and is not legal or moral.

594828 2007-10-08 00:49:00 You're forgetting though, the posted speed is the LIMIT, not what speed they want you to be going. It's okay to be going 50kph in a 70 zone, but not vice versa. roddy_boy (4115)

This is only the case if you are not holding up traffic in normal safe driving conditions.

If you are traveling significantly under the speed limit, and you are holding up traffic behind you, you can be ticketed.

I reckon that people that go slower than the posted speed are what cause a lot of accidents. People behind them get annoyed and overtake in places they shouldn't.
These people are usually the same ones that speed up when they get to a passing lane :badpc:
And then there are the ones that do about 60-65km/h in a 70 zone and stay at that speed when they get to 50 zone.

Oh, don't get me started on them... had one the other day do that on me and the passing land was short and they were doing 70 in a 100 zone so I booted it... 140 going past  :xmouth:

594832 2007-10-09 00:25:00 In the UK they now have cameras in series. There will be several fixed cameras on a road at set distances apart. They take an average speed from the first to last camera and you get fined accordingly on how much you exceed the limit.

We were advised about these before we went to the UK last year and we came across a lot of them. Sometimes 3 cameras over a 2-3 km distance sometimes more depending on the road.

I guess it gets the people that speed up after a camera.

No doubt we will get these in NZ in time.

Doubt it, NZ don't have enough $ to do it, just look at the stationery speed camera, they can't even have one fixed at each designated location, but to rotate it from time to time
