594814 2007-10-02 22:19:00 Yeah I agree, the police shouldn't give you a ticket if you exceed the speed limit accidentally. roddy_boy (4115)
594815 2007-10-02 22:30:00 How can you prove it was accidental? you can't, speeding is speeding case closed...

Get a radar detector as I said earlier and then you will know when there are cops around...

Note, I don't like what the cops do with the tickets, but this is the way I see it... person speeds, person gets ticket if caught... Yes, I speed on occation as well.

The Valentine 1 (AKA V1) is said to be the best from what I have heard, but I also don't really know much about them. can try Google :p

Just have to watch lasers as radar detectors have a harder time picking them up...

594820 2007-10-02 23:11:00 Me too, but I suspect that if you get caught speeding and you have a radar detector, they'll take a VERY dim view of you... george12 (7)

Yes....that would suck. I think by the time you hear the detector beep, you have enough time to brake before the speed radar locks in on your speed? I need to find a website that has done some testing with them, just to see if it's actually worth getting one.

I borrowed one from a friend for a while, just to see if it actually worked.
And the only time I got a beep from the detector, was when I was in perfect view and line-of-site with the cop car.
So I'm pretty sure that he would of had my speed.

Possibly was a cheap piece of junk - I don't know.
But have other friends that have used them, and none of them kept them for long, because they didn't work.
Some of them where really expensive fancy sounding/looking ones too, supposed to do all sorts of kewl stuff.
But they didn't.

I think it would be safer not to speed...:annoyed:
As much as going a little faster can be at times! :)

594823 2007-10-03 00:04:00 Here (www.radardirect.co.nz) is a pretty decent FAQ for NZ.

Seems to say it isn't really worth the money. We will just not speed!

Please bear in mind this conversation started by trying to avoid cops that are revenue gathering, not how to speed and get away with it. ;)
