768385 2009-04-25 12:25:00 Odd issue not resolved by repair of Outlook/Office 2007 and 'reinstalling' Vista 64 bit OS.

In Outlook, settings such as safe senders and being on-line vs off line at last close down are not retained. Is there any setting / etc that anyone knows to try to repair this?

768386 2009-04-25 13:00:00 More information needed. I run Office 2007 under WinXP Pro 64 bit and may be able to help.

Are you trying to add to your address book or contacts or maybe trying to add to Junk filters?

There is a difference between save senders or safe senders.

768387 2009-04-26 06:26:00 Thanks, it is odd and difficult to categorise the problem . I am used to Outlook 2007 on a variety of OS . Usually, if you happened to work off line and close down, it will remain off line and when opened up again will ask if you want to reconnect if a service is available, and visa versa . Outlook on this machine ALWAYS says it is off line and then requires a tedious key press to run . Similarly, if you have clicked to load images on a sender whose site you trust, it should be saved to 'Safe senders' ie 'remembered' . But in my case it NEVER saves these data ie Safe senders list is NEVER saved .

Other strange factors such as not always remembering folder views seems to have been helped by the 'reinstall' of Vista, but these other curious and frustrating inconsistencies remain .

768388 2009-05-30 05:53:00 Issue is under the Vista 64 Bit, but I cannot see if it is a OS problem or a software prob. Maybe Windows 7 64 bt will be a more stable system! PhilW (11688)

My guess would be Outlook 2007 have issues with 64 bit OS .

But, it's always worth trying the Office Diagnostics tool (in Office Tools under Microsoft Office in the Start menu), it picks up quite a few configuration errors, issues with plug-ins .

Just in case, also make sure you have Office SP2 installed which makes a big difference to Outlook .

So why did Outlook work under Win XP Pro 64 and Win7 Beta 64 and also Win RC1 64 bit for me?

Office2007 improved with SP2 so that is a good upgrade more in particular using Publlsher to make web sites and the way rendered in IE8, and firefox for example.

768391 2009-07-04 07:49:00 OK, after another month of no solution, I installed Windows 7, No reall change. I uninstalled Office 2007 and reboooted, twice, and then reinstalled. SAME PROBLEMS, so it is picking up the old settings and making the smaqe mistakes. What I'd like to know if there is anyway to completely blow away any settings, and start fresh without an OS reinstall.

Is there a cleanup for office as it leaves its waste behind on exit?

768392 2009-07-04 22:27:00 Uninstall office completely, then delete ALL of the folders relating to Office. Then use something like ccleaner / glary utilities to remove the rest. Then reinstall. I use Office 07 with 64 bit as well. Its fine here so far. Speedy Gonzales (78)
768393 2009-07-04 23:38:00 For what it is worth I had to install Office 07 Pro using the Net Administrators account on my Vista Home Premium 64 bit system.

Several attempts to install from my user account failed quoting a problem writing registry values. I then did a clean up as per Speedy's advice above rebooted into the Net Admin account and all installed perfectly from there. Office 07 now runs without problem in my user account.

Might be worth a try if all else fails for you.

The install on my 32bit Vista Laptop worked normally. Needs a better brain than mine to explain why the problem on my 64bit system
