596290 2007-09-29 21:23:00 So who rushed out and bought a freeview box just for the sake of tvnz's crappy new channel which started this morning, I know i didn't and i wont.
It's full of repeats as expected and its a waste of money.

The only time i might buy a freeview box is when tvnz goes to HD next year on tv1 on the freeview platform ready in time for the olympics which start in august. Read this link.

596291 2007-09-29 23:50:00 When will we see some HD tv's in the shops with the HD box built in ?

I need to buy a new TV now and I'd like to save buying one of the set top boxes.

Regards

Don't count on seeing here in NZ digital tuners built into TVs until about this time next year. Most likely the excuse is "They haven't sorted the HD standard for NZ yet" That's what I got :horrified when I asked Sony and Samsung back in July..

596293 2007-09-30 04:21:00 It is not only the set top you need to buy.

Getting a satellite dish ups the ante if you need a dish.

We get repeats anyway on SKY.

I have not been tempted to get into SKY at this time.

Will be watching "The Dukes of Hazzard" tonight on Channel 2. Now while this is advertised as a Premiere movie I have seen it before on other free to air channels. It bears repeating for me.

Other than that I also rent DVDs for my own enjoyment and entertainment. Some I have watched more than once. Is this a repeat?

I also listen to certain music tracks over again. Oh no a REPEAT!
Every now and then I will re-read a book I have read before. Another repeat?

Sorry for repeating myself.

596294 2007-09-30 05:38:00 I think they're starting terrestrial digital broadcasting next year. GoodHour (12218)
596295 2007-09-30 11:34:00 it's a shame there is nothing good on anymore...

the occasional good movie, daily show, scrubs, serial killers (on at midnight for some retarded reason) and my latest find "one sunny day in philadelphia", are the only things on worth watching.

i am so fed up with csi and svu and all those other cop shows, and "reality" TV (especially all the recent crap) is even worse:yuck:

Thanks for that. An interesting read.

I did not know that HD would only be broadcast on UHF channels. From the article: * A UHF HDTV antenna on your roof. $60 to $200.

BTW, my guess is that we will see lots of cheap non-HD big screen TVs on Trademe from those people wanting to upgrade.

Or worse. Those people being sucked in by the Warehouse ads for large screen TVs that are "HD ready" but only have a 480 panel.. Saw them being advertized last week in the national papers..

Also i would suspect that there are not many TV viewers who don't already havea UHF antenna on their roof.

Will the new 'HD UHF" antenna be the same as the normal ones?

I didn't; I got the box a year ago and have been using it for the existing channels :)
