596254 2007-09-30 03:19:00 One thing I wonder, whats all this about having to patch your OS etc etc etc???
I mean, for 2 years I have been using Gentoo Linux, for 2 years I haven't had to touch my computer when Daylight Savings starts/finishes. It just does it auto, I wake up on the affected day, and the time is correct.
Windows used to do the same thing (or so I thought, I know when I used XP the time was always correct), if this is correct, why the need for patching??? Whats changed?

596255 2007-09-30 03:32:00 ...why the need for patching??? What's changed? The start & end times of DST have changed. Because of this, the files that tell the OS when DST starts and finishes need to be updated - hence the patch. Erayd (23)
596256 2007-09-30 03:39:00 Our one year old baby here awoke at 6:55am this morning (we normally get up at 7am), I had hoped daylight savings might have meant we could have stayed in bed till 8am, but no the little buggers internal clock must have updated, bah humbug Morgenmuffel (187)

Remember to refresh the page before posting if it was loaded a while ago ...So I'm assuming that the fact I use NTP daemon (ever since Ive been using Linux), which is set for local servers, sets my time as correct for Daylight Savings without the need for patching? i.e. it overrides the OS/hardware clocks

596259 2007-09-30 04:25:00 My home PC was fine, but the laptop had to be pushed - apparently a M$ update had switched off the "Automatically adjust for Daylight Savings" checkbox in the Date & Time applet in Control Panel. Running XP Media Edition and XP Pro respectively. johcar (6283)
596260 2007-09-30 04:51:00 So I'm assuming that the fact I use NTP daemon (ever since Ive been using Linux), which is set for local servers, sets my time as correct for Daylight Savings without the need for patching? i.e. it overrides the OS/hardware clocksNope, NTP has nothing to do with it. You have probably installed the patch without reaising it, or you have an auto-update cronjob. Erayd (23)
596261 2007-09-30 05:36:00 Without our 30 + 60 minutes daylight-saving it would be light as early as 3:55am in Auckland and 3:35am in Christchurch in December. GoodHour (12218)
596262 2007-09-30 08:57:00 Its funny, you can always tell on the Sunday of Daylight Savings who forgot coz they either show up to church _real_ late, or _real_ early :P

That and a quarter of people simply didnt show today that usually would have :D

596263 2007-09-30 09:20:00 Daylight savings is evil. It causes all my curtains to fade more due to the increased daylight. *shakes fist at government* gibler (49)
