768728 2009-04-26 10:33:00 I think I bought the wrong mobo! I got an ASUS P5QL-EM with an E8400 and thought I could overclock it to 3 . 6GHz which is supposed to be easy . Just raising the fsb from 333 to 400 is all that most people do .

I can only get a 5% increase . Over that all I get is a POST "Overvoltage or Overclocking error" . Hit F1 to enter setup . It seems as if a numeric check is being carried out and it is outside the stored parameters . The mobo is rated at 1333 (4x333fsb) so maybe it just wont go to 1600 even though some specs say it can overclock to this .

I have googled the hell out of it but can't find anything really helpful .

I don't expect miracles from you guys but just MAYBE someone can help . Otherwise I will just be content with 3GHz until I flog this mobo off and get a (hopefully) better one .

768729 2009-04-26 10:51:00 Some mobos just dont overclock, im stuck with one atm

What cooling have you got? and whats ram? have you loosened the timings?

768730 2009-04-26 11:57:00 I really think this is a dog OC board. However, I have a friend who could make good use of it!

I just have the stock cooler. Heat is not a problem as I can't get the fsb beyond 340! The RAM timings for my Corsair chips (2x2GB) are 5-5-5-15. The mobo has timings of 5-5-5-18 2T.

768731 2009-04-26 12:04:00 dont always pin it on the motherboard, ive oc some pretty shabby boards

try loosen off the timings more so you can take that out of the equation.

how much voltage are you giving everything?

768733 2009-04-27 04:54:00 ok vcore needs alot more volts, try something like 1.4 and see what happens hueybot3000 (3646)
768734 2009-04-27 05:28:00 vcore upped to 1.4 with no change. It is really stubborn! linw (53)
768735 2009-04-27 05:32:00 what is stock northbridge and ram on yours? does your mobo give a visual indication of how dangerous the volts you using is? Like as you change voltage does the number colour go orange then red or something?

If it does then chuck all voltages up to the higher end of orange and try that. When I OC I usually start by abusing the motherboard and then slowly lower all voltages until I find the point where it stops being a stable overclock

768736 2009-04-27 05:52:00 vcore upped to 1.4 with no change. It is really stubborn!

Just keep playing until you fry things.

Then you can go get another motherboard and CPU.
