2009-05-02 02:19:00 | Hi, I have used another same HDD cos one of them stuffed up IMO . I have downloaded Seatools and how do I use it? I have run SMART test and it was fine and doing some other long DST test . Thing is upon windows it always does a chkdsk if it is the primary hdd or not, also if it is the 2nd drive, and I try to extract info from it . . it says unobtainable cannot copy files . Basically how do I go about it and should I wish to nuke it and maybe that would rid the bad sectors? Thanks . ,

2009-05-02 02:49:00 | No, following Seagate's instructions re: bad sectors - drive - properties - disk check or something like that. It is going now. | Nomad (952) | |
2009-05-02 02:55:00 | yep, that is chdsk pretty much. Once that is finished post the SMART status here..Agent24 may be able to have a look at it for you

2009-05-02 03:16:00 | "nuking " a drive wont fix Bad Sectors - these are basically dead spots on the drive, when you format a drive with Bad sectors, windows marks them as bad and that way data cant be written to that area. As for the chkdsk running, thats because its gotten stuck some place. The drive letter used below is C: but if its a slaved drive, change the letter to what ever the drive is Eg: D: open a command prompt, from start/Run type in cmd Hit enter. Type in fsutil dirty query c: If it comes back as being dirty, or even if it doesn't, type in CHKNTFS /X C: (note spaces) Reboot the PC, bring up the cmd again, type in Chkdsk /f /r C:

2009-05-02 04:31:00 | Followed your cmd's and at the end it gave up saying: An unspecified error occurred. Is this warrantable?

2009-05-02 04:52:00 | Seagate warranty are 1 year or 5 year depending on the drive model. You can try HDD Regenerator or Flobo
