598829 2007-10-06 22:49:00 The 'butter conditoner' of my 10 yr old Fisher & Paykel fridge-freezer is not working randomly - it may stop work for 2 weeks and works again for a week or 2 then stop again.

There must be a switch /thermostat hidden somewhere which is not functioning properly, but I can't locate the screws to dismantle the unit. I have a fair mechanical/electrical knowledge to rectify the problem if I can locate the screws to dismantle the unit. Is there anyone here who has knowledge in this area?

Cheers

Mine does the same thing and had heard that it was a common problem. Maybe thats prt of the reason the no longer include them in new F&P fridges

I was really put out that the new fridges don't have butter conditioners anymore, but apparently it's something to do with the "Active-Smart" system, the heat source inside the fridge confuses it.

598833 2007-10-07 01:41:00 There is no thermostat or switches inside it. The control is is a variable resistance in series with the heater. I pulled apart and fixed mine years ago, but not sure how - old age memory loss!! Peter H (220)
598834 2007-10-07 05:55:00 We have a Fisher & Paykel fridge/freezer. Some months ago our butter conditioner gave up the ghost and got hot. This resulted in all of the fridge/freezer going on the blink. We had to move all of the food etc, etc. We got a serviceman out who fixed it. I would say that the moral of the story is don't wait until it fails completely. We lost some food but thankfully not a lot which could have happened if we had been at work or away from home !

598836 2007-10-07 06:32:00 I saw my first F&P washing machine a few months ago . . and I was not impressed .

Sitting next to a RCA/Whirlpool, which I bought, it was a shoddy second . . . no, make that a tenth placer!

598837 2007-10-07 17:56:00 Fridges have butter conditioners inside them?

I thought that's what the microwave was for.

We had some trouble with ours. I spent ages trying to find out how to remove it. Even changing the light bulb is just about impossible. Then suddenly I found myself with the unit in my hand - but cannot remember how I did it!!!
However we did have a technician point out to us that you must use the supplied container for your butter - the conditioner is set up to use this and is a bit sensitive.
