598436 2007-10-06 00:46:00 I have 2 jackpoints and DSL was connected today at exchange.

Got home and now there is no dial tone on the phone line. I pick up the phone and its complete silence.

Is this a fault or will i get the dial tone after i have put filters on?? I thought without filters you would still hear at least something (noise) when you pick up the phone but its dead silence

598437 2007-10-06 00:48:00 You need the filters as they have to filter out the standard phone line signal from the DSL signal on the same line;) winmacguy (3367)
598438 2007-10-06 02:22:00 Sounds like they've buggered it up and disconnected you instead! feersumendjinn (64)

Nonsense. You filter the high frequency from the part the phone uses. Nothing to do with dial tone at all.
Your phone will still work without the filter - its just noisy.

They screwed up.

598440 2007-10-06 05:00:00 Plugging a phone in without a filter merely means you disconnect the Internet. This happens round here from time to time. Power failure, go find a wired phone, plug it in downstairs, forget to unplug it when the power comes back on, no internet till we unplug it.

The phone works fine without a filter.

Reason for above is we went to cordless phones rather than buying extra filters. Unfortunately they don't work in power failures. And we get a few of those.
