770308 2009-05-02 11:49:00 Ok...here is the updated screen shot on PC with modem connection. Here is the difference this time. When I connected the cable it really took a longer time to aquire network. So I went in local area connection properties and it was different. When I clicked on internet protocol (tcp/ip) properties there was a different tab that is alternative configuration where I was able to to pick from automatic private IP address or user configuration. I configured it. But still no connection because I need the right configuration. As the configurations I used were from my laptop. Also when it was trying to configure the monitor icon was not on the bottom right next to clock. Once I disconnected the cable it reappeared with an red X (as usual when no connection). Just odd. Could anyone explain that. puffins808 (14043)
770309 2009-05-02 11:54:00 tell me have you ever had a dailup account on the pc
and if you did have are you plugging in the modem/router to the same plug on the pc that dailup account was using

I have never set a dial up connection. I actually aquired this computer. I do not see that there was one added. If you know of another place in the PC I could confirm this other than internet options/connections, please let me know

The cable modem has a t1 and a dial up uses a regular phone jack...so I would say no. But just to reiterate...never had dial up.

770312 2009-05-02 12:59:00 Been following this - Blam's earlier suggestion of a stuffed up TCP/IP stack looks like it may be the problem - had a PC a few weeks back did the same thing .

Try this, right click on My computer/properties/Hardware tab/Device manager / locate the network Adapter - expand it out - right click it - delete it, agree to any prompts - reboot, it should auto pick up the card and install the drivers - try the Internet connection now .

This is different, but close to the winsockfix, if the TCP/IP stack is stuffed, winsock fix doesn't always work, reinstalling it sometimes does .

Stating the obvious - back in post 13 Autoconfiguration IP Address . . . : 169 . 254 . 142 . 120
Thats the default world wide address for the LAN connection not working .
