770248 2009-05-02 01:26:00 Hello all. I am running WinXp SP3. I can not get online due to Automatic Private Address. I tried to manually set up IP address and DNS...did not work. I have check my settings and obtain an IP address automatically, DNS server address automatically. DHCP is enabled. I did an iconfig/all. Do you need to know what it said? What other information do you need to know to help me solve this problem. Please help. Thank you. puffins808 (14043)
770249 2009-05-02 01:32:00 have you tried rebooting your router? Did the internet used to work with the same setup & just stopped working?

You could try download www.snapfiles.com (on another computer - transfer with a flash drive)

What anti-virus software are you running?

770250 2009-05-02 01:50:00 I tried the WinSock fix...did not work. For anti-virus using avast. puffins808 (14043)
770251 2009-05-02 01:52:00 So are you on broadband?? If you are, did u you put the ip in manually (and put a valid ip address in - one within the routers ip range)??

What did you put in for the gateway and the primary/alternate DNS server? You are trying to configure a LAN right, not a 1394 connection (which is firewire).

I see firewire has a alternate configuration (under properties), if this is what you've configured go into the properties of the LAN (which doesnt have this option)

It sounds like youre trying to configure the wrong network device (1394 instead of Local Area connection)

770252 2009-05-02 01:59:00 I am using cable modem. I put 204.210.124.1 for default gateway, DNS 24.25.227.55, 66.75.160.63 and 24.25.227.56 puffins808 (14043)
770253 2009-05-02 02:27:00 Sorry, I forgot to answer...LAN is correct. puffins808 (14043)

I only have one in network settings which is Local area connection. I went into properties and internet protocol (tcp/ip) and clicked properties and that is where I manually added the information.

770255 2009-05-02 02:40:00 Hmm ok. Its just that Automatic Private Address isn't under the LAN properties (well its not on this (the alternate configuration tab isnt under the LAN here either, but its under the 1394 connection)

So youre with roadrunner / hawaii since thats what 24.25.227.55 and the other ips belongs to?

I got these setting from my laptop. From what I am reading in your replies....something is really wrong on my PC. Yes, I am running roadrunner, yes, hawaii. Am I supposed to have only Local Area Connection in my network settings?
