Yes and NO. depends what you buy. The Asus Eee Box uses normal SODIMM RAM as well as 2.5" HDD which is upgradeable. but you are right, some use non standard parts which do make it painful to upgrade/replace when things go wrong. |

Some case companies build SFF cases that take standard parts. One particular case I'm interested in is Lian-Li's PC-V351 HTPC case. It's about half the size of a normal mini-tower case so it takes u-ATX boards. The interesting features of this case are that it has room for a standard ATX power supply and the optical drives are installed at right-angles, thus the tray ejects from the side of the case not the front. I'm not entirely sure but I think this case can also handle the longest video cards. |
