769845 2009-05-01 03:20:00 Hi Guys,

I need to know something, is it possible for me to download say HD movie trailers and then play on my pc on my 15inc LCD monitor, would that be considered HD? Does my video card need updating if you want to play HD?

Sorry it is a dumb question but if I google this it comes up with TV Tuners, but that is not what I mean...

769846 2009-05-01 03:28:00 No-your 15 inch LCd probably cannot disaply full HD, 720p or FUll HD 1080p

You will also need a graphics card capable or outputting HD

769847 2009-05-01 03:28:00 HD is usually 1920*1080, (or 1366x768), which isnt really true HD

The monitor will probably play it ok but it wont be true HD

It helps if you have the videocard and monitor (that support it) and both have a HDMI connection

769848 2009-05-01 03:38:00 The monitor I have is a Philips 150S and I have a Radeon 7500 graphics card, I have noticed when I downloaded a movie trailer which was in HD, that the pc can not handle playing it very well, flickered a couple of times..
Interesting... Thanks for you reply guys..

769849 2009-05-01 04:23:00 The GFX card might not be up to it. Blam (54)
769850 2009-05-01 05:33:00 HD is 1280x720
Full HD is 1920x1080

So if your monitor can at least handle 1280x1024, then you will be able to play back 720HD content without having to scale down.

How fast is your CPU?
I have an Athlon XP 1800+ and a GeForce Ti 4200. With the CoreAVC codec, 720HD content encoded in the h.264 codec is watchable. If possible, use Media player classic with CoreAVC, it will be smoother than ffdshow.

769851 2009-05-01 06:03:00 Save up 13-1400 dollars. Then you'll have a dual core 4 gb, hd tuner, a videocard with HDMI, and hd monitor. Then it'll be HD Speedy Gonzales (78)
769852 2009-05-01 06:15:00 You can play a HD video on any monitor you like. It just won't come out in HD quality if the monitor doesn't support HD resolutions.

Same goes for the video card, though to a larger extent - if it can't process the information fast enough the video will lag/tear etc.

A Radeon 7500 is a bit old so, I doubt it will run smoothly unless you upgraded. However CPU speed, bus speed, drivers, codecs and player program can also make a difference too

Make sure your AGP (GART) drivers are installed and up to date. same goes with video drivers. Try to use the most eficiant codec and program to play the file.

769853 2009-05-01 07:39:00 Wow, thanks for the update Agent 24, My CPU is a Pentium 4 2.4 ghz, don't know about bus speeds etc..
I did not completely know it all worked so thanks for your help and advice everyone!

769854 2009-05-01 08:33:00 Well a Pentium 4 should give acceptable performance, the letdown might be the Radeon 7500.

Do you know if it is AGP or PCI?
