769736 2009-04-30 08:42:00 This was a silly thing to do, but it was an old computer.
I now get a slightly shaky shimmering picture.
It used to be OK.
Have I damaged the computer?
The monitor is OK, have tested it on my laptop.
Am annoyed with myself.:crying
Thanks

769737 2009-04-30 08:47:00 That won't change anything lol....

Just make sure you have plugged it back in right and have instaleld the lates drivers
And check to make sure there's no bent pins

There are no bent pins.

Have tried several times to press the plug in firmly.
This doesn't help!

It is not connected to the internet, so can't upgrade drivers, but I believe the drivers are OK,
because the computer used to display clearly.

769739 2009-04-30 09:01:00 Does it happen in safe mode too? Blam (54)
769740 2009-04-30 09:16:00 Could be the refresh rate on the ME causing the monitor to "shimmy" Have a look Here on how to change it (www.computerhope.com) - just check its not set to high, and lower it if its up a bit, try 60 if its not already set to that. wainuitech (129)

Sorry about the delay in getting back to you.

No - the problem does not occur in safe mode

769742 2009-04-30 09:25:00 Not a hardware problem then. Try turning down hardware acceleration and the refresh rate as WT mentioned Blam (54)
769743 2009-04-30 09:35:00 Have tried lowering the acceleration. This doesn't help

The refresh rate is set at optimal
in settings,
and when the computer starts
a message comes on the screen
saying it is 60Khz.

769744 2009-04-30 09:45:00 Am pleased it is not the hardware.

This means I may still get good results on my old Philips CRT monitor,
but I don't want to try this out yet, as it means rearranging the furniture.

769745 2009-04-30 09:50:00 Try going into device manager>right click vide adapter>uninstall>reboot.

Should reinstall video driver on reboot, if it doesn't work boot into safe mode which will use the default VGA.sys driver then install the latest version from the manufacturers website
