598911 2007-10-07 01:11:00 Hi, is this legal?
We bought a packet of brazilian nuts and it was off.
I went back to the store and found all of them expired in July. These were just on the normal shelfs with no special signs or anything, just price and just there on the shelf.

Also, near the counter, there were other foods which was discounted as it says but there was no info saying it was outdated.

It one of those stores that restaurants go to and also the public can go to as well, like self packaged packets of food, nuts, spices etc.

598912 2007-10-07 01:20:00 Off what?

Off the table?

Off the stock market?

If it's out of date . . . then take it back .

Some places here sell day-old, but not year-old or month-old stuff regularly .

Some of our stores have a semi-contest policy that if you find an outdated product, you get two fresh versions for free .

Still . . . this "off" thing . . . what's it mean?

598913 2007-10-07 01:22:00 The brazilian nuts were overdue expired from July. It had this expired oakey plastic smell.

Other stuff were like biscuits and stuff.

They didn't wanna take it back .. like trying to save face ... they rather bin it than refund it. Its a ethnic supermarket / distributor.

598915 2007-10-07 01:28:00 i thought it was illegal to sell food that had gone past the used by date. thats why when its used by date is almost up they sell it at a cheap cheap rate to get rid of it. tweak'e (69)
598916 2007-10-07 01:28:00 As far as I know, it is illegal and they could be fined for selling expired goods. ESPECIALLY considering they KNOW the items are expired and deliberately selling them. qazwsxokmijn (102)

598918 2007-10-07 01:46:00 I won't name the supermarket, but I bought yoghurt that was past it's due date, I know, silly me for not checking when I was in the supermarket, and when I tried to take them back, with the docket, they said I had been out of the store, could of got it from anywhere, so no, they wouldn't refund me. I was gutted, it was two 6 pacs. supergran (108)
598919 2007-10-07 03:06:00 Bread is the one that gets me.
You really have to check the dates to make sure you are
getting the freshest product.
