597925 2007-10-04 19:16:00 I have a 2001 holden commodore s/w. I have just had the radiator and thermostat replaced about 1 month or so ago. Now over the last couple of days the "coooked radiator" smell has appeared in the interior of the car but is not evident from the outside of the car. Also I get times when the windscreen fogs up for no apparent reason. Now driving to work this morning I noticed a white smoke / steam coming through the vents. It did not smell like a burning type of smoke but did have a twang of cooked radiator to it - not that strong though. Of course I am going to take it to the holden garage and get it checked out but wondered if anybody had any ideas.

I wondered whether it may be the gas from the air conditioning system ?

597926 2007-10-04 20:30:00 It's more likely your heater core that's leaking.

Check for a wet floorboard or carpet.

It can be dangerous.....it can inject steam and coolant into your face or through the dashboard vents, all over your body.

The least it might do is fog the windshield so badly when you need to see out of it that you might have an accident. It can be sudden.

Be careful.

BTW: I thought a Commodore was a computer.

Ever heard of a Ford Falcon? Commodores are the Holden equivalent. They're basically a big RWD car with a 3.8L V6. They are classically a farmer's car I think. They're also the NZ Police car.

Ya mean youse guys are still driving 1959-1970 Ford Falcons?

We quite building them that long ago...but THIS PART scares me:

The Ford Falcon 2008 model soon to be released in Australia has been said to be easy to convert to left-hand drive so that it may be exported to other countries. This has produced thoughts that the Falcon may make a 'comeback' to the USA.

They were junk before, they will be junk again...if Ford stays open that is.

Next you'll be claiming the sinclair was a computer too and not the revolution in transportation in the 80's !!!

597933 2007-10-05 00:29:00 Globe - I think Joe is correct. It sounds like the heater itself which is just a small radiator under your dashboard, is leaking. Hot water from around the motor travels through the heater through hoses and one may have split.

Have a look under the dashboard about where the gearbox is, run the motor and see if you can spot a leak.

For the life of me I can't understand why you don't just take it back to the people who did the job and ask them to look at it . It's 90% certain that it is an outcome of their work that they should fix at no charge . If it's not their work, you can either ask them to fix it now, or drive around for the next week or so until you do some real damage then pay extra to have it diagnosed and repaired properly .

And Joe, I'm no Ford lover but I think you might be surprised at what a modern Ford Falcon is like . It doesn't resemble any US vehicle you would know, i . e . it is not a beached whale with wheels, and they handle quite well so long as you don't drive over land mines (little in-joke for kiwis there, someone will explain it to you if you didn't see the thread few weeks back) .

Cheers
