770577 2009-05-03 06:21:00 I just tried upgrading the RAM in this machine, everything was working fine until I started installing Debian..

I was about to setup the network interface in the installer when the PC locked up

I hit restart button, but the PC did not restart and instead the monitor just turned off and the power LED flashed continuously.

Turned off then on and same thing.

Put the old RAM back and still the LED flashes and nothing happens.

Does anyone know what the flashing LED means? (there is no beep code :()

770578 2009-05-03 06:48:00 Here's one answer (www.computing.net)

The PSU is failing or the mobo is ready to die

770579 2009-05-03 07:49:00 Everything does power on though: fans, drives etc..

Just nothing ever happens..

Tried some other PSUs and still the same problem.. Probably the board is stuffed.. typical!

770580 2009-05-03 09:14:00 I had this problem once-PC would not beep but fans, drives etc were fine. It sometimes beeped after an hour of being on and then everything would be fine...

Turns out it was a bios problem, and updating to the latest version fixed it.

770581 2009-05-03 11:50:00 Yeah I imagine that would have been caused by CPU incompatibility or something (I had a similar issue with a socket A board once I had upgraded to an Athlon XP)

However the PR440FX is very old, it was already running the latest BIOS (it had no problems whatsoever previous to the RAM upgrade)

The thing is I have never seen a PC which failed to POST flash the Power LED. Even the totally ruined boards always I've seen the LED stay on.

I thought it may have been a specific indication of a certain condition
