770537 2009-05-03 03:03:00 Last time I checked (which was about a year ago) we couldn't get broadband (landline), so we hooked up with a wireless provider, who we now get broadband off.

However I checked today, and the telecom, slingshot and orcon line checkers all say that we can get broadband, and slingshots even says we can get speeds greater than 4mbs :banana.

Are these line checkers accurate, and is there a way to find out if telecom (or anyone else) have put in an exchange nearby? Late last year we saw a orb van go up and down our road a few times.

We don't really want to have to put up with the hassle of getting someone to come out to tell us that we are unable to get broadband.

Edit: Xnet's line checker also says we can get broadband > 4mbps :).

If they all say you can now, then you can.

Great stuff! Is there anyway to find out how far away the roadside cabinet is (other than driving around)?

Also, now I remember, it was chorus going down the road not orb :o

No, but going to what other people have said on other forums like Geekzone (www.geekzone.co.nz) and GP Forums (www.gpforums.co.nz), I wont use them.

Oh great, I'm not in an area for the upgrade plan to ADSL2+.
Still, shouldn't be surprised, our area has only had broadband for 4 or 5 years.:crying

Great, we are located in a yellow "exchange" zone.

Might forget about slingshot after reading that :thanks
