600533 2007-10-11 03:09:00 There is an interesting Q&A poll on another site (not in competition with F1) that makes one think a little. It's not perfect, but it has some good counter-points...I even posted a few.

See what you think.... (blogs.zdnet.com)

600534 2007-10-11 04:57:00 Interesting poll. I voted YES to CD ripping. didn't read the rest if it though. winmacguy (3367)
600535 2007-10-11 05:25:00 I think that ripping a CD to your hard drive, iPOD or other mp3 player is well within reasonable usage and shouldn't be deemed as vioating copyright . . . I think the things to remember here are reasonable and fair use . . .

Technology is changing, we have moved a away from going to the gym with a disc man or walkman etc to digital devices etc which are far more portable .

Why do we get labelled criminals or pirates because we want to listen to our favorite artists wherever we go?

I'm against ripping any copyright material and distributing it freely or for profit . . that is wrong .

However, I don't see why I should not be allowed to make a copy for use on my iPOD or in my car stereo etc . I paid for it and I should be allowed fair reasonable use of the works whenever I want, wherever I want . . after all I paid for it and at the very least that is what I should get in return for handing over my hard earned dosh!!!

Cheers

600536 2007-10-11 06:06:00 We get labeled as crims and pirates by the RIAA because they dont get the $$ benefits of the customer buying 3-4 copies of all their CDs so that they can have 1 in the house, 1 in the car, 1 at the bach and 1 for work which is actually a f**king ridiculous scenario. The RIAA is still stuck in the prehistoric dark ages and they don't seem to want to leave them behind in a hurry. winmacguy (3367)
600537 2007-10-11 06:58:00 I rip CDs, but I don't rip my DVDs because they never turn out as good as the pirate rips. Greven (91)

600539 2007-10-11 07:48:00 Handbrake.
i see a new ver of handbrake is out. i'll have to get back to doing dvd rips. its just so handy to have a library on pc than mucking around finding and swapping disks over.

ditto for music. i still do occasional play the cd's (only because pc isn't connected to the stereo at the mo) but mostly the music is played off the pc.

600540 2007-10-11 08:38:00 I rip what few CD's I own. I never buy new, I have never sold them either.

I have also downloaded a bundle of music off legal sources (Emusic) for around $2. Do I share it? Nah!

Do I back it up to disk? Yep!

Let's hope Amazon will let me download from their music site when it's outta the bug stage.

They are MP3s, I am pretty sure you can buy and download now from NZ if you want to.
