601379 2007-10-16 10:27:00 I was amazed that the NZRFU was, immediately following the loss to France in the RWC quarter final, talking about the impact of the loss on the All Black brand and marketing opportunities.

They are a professional sports team, with massive income from merchandising sales, with massive sponsorship, who pay their staff and players massive salaries.

They are not the All Blacks I grew up admiring and feeling pride about.

They aren't the real deal anymore. I don't think they should do the haka when the NZRFU's real concern is for branding and marketing

601380 2007-10-16 16:57:00 Drop it - I have never liked it.

I think it an uncivilized ritual that most other countries have grown out of.

Especially when we are no longer world champions (for 20 years).

Funny the French stood right up to us and we lost !

Also I think drop the name All Blacks. I think the players would have more conviction of they knew they were playing for New Zealand and not some brand name.

If the sung our anthem it might help to.

Do you notice that whenever they choose a new all black who is not European, they interview them and they always say "ever since I was young I wanted to be an All Black" I bet in other countries they would say I wanted to play for "South Africa, France, Georgia etc"

There was a parking meter maid strike some years ago in Wellington, people were not just double parking they were triple parking.
It seems we do need some restraint at times, the the thought doesn't go down well with me either.

601382 2007-10-16 20:03:00 I love the original Haka. It gives me a sense of pride and unity and I think it sets a great stage for any game. If we gave that away I believe we are giving away the spirit in which it was intended ... a challenge, ensuring oppositions respect. Regardless of what some may think, I think that the Haka is fully respected from all nations and would be sorely missed. I listen to everyones Anthems/pregame Hakas etc and try to figure out what meaning they have but interpretation will always influence anyones opinion. ;) never-u-mind (6500)
601383 2007-10-16 21:25:00 You're full of s*** Sol. Why the f can't you say things with even a modicum of truth?

For example... here's a recorded quote from one of our recent great All Blacks:

"the haka is just as important to me as the actual game. And the thought I put into it, the way I do it, is how I show what being an All Black means to me, and how I demonstrate my respect for all the All Blacks who have gone before me"
Kees Meews (All Black 1998 - 2004)

I'd like to see you rubbish the haka directly to his face!

Greg - have you EVER heard of publicity?.......besides which Meews is Maori D***head, of course the Haka means something to him.

Have you ever been to rugby365.com, i suggest you do some reading and check out how much supporters think of the Haka and what foreigners think of our precious attitude with it, before you start dribbling cr*p.

You only have to know a small bit about the All Blacks to know that the players are obliged to fulfill a lot of publicity aspects.

The almost unlimited international support for the haka is unbridled by the negatives from the []like yourself.

It's here. It's been here for years. And it'll stay for years to come... because the players do it, the supporters want it, and the fans love it.

Go buy a lollypop if you can't deal with it.
