600276 2007-10-12 09:36:00 So you put things up at random times - and pay an extra fee for changing the time?

My solution was an Access database. List things in it at a time that suits then go on-line for a spot of copy and paste. Also have fields for date, selling price, buyer etc which I update randomly after stuff sells. Works well.

600277 2007-10-12 10:16:00 25c is nothing. I only $1 reserve one or two things a week. It would be much less convenient to go to the PC at the time of day I wanted it to close and list things then.

The Access DB is a good idea, but I mostly just relist stuff as most things I sell are sets of identical PCs.

Philip, currently I tend to have one with a buynow price and one running as an auction (no reserve in this case). Is this not a good idea?

600278 2007-10-12 10:24:00 One buy now and one $1 reserve is OK. Some people maybe hindered by the buy now price, and forced to keep an eye on the $1 auction. During the last minute bid war, they may actually bid close to or over your buy now price.

Saw that a couple of times before. I even saw someone bid over $600 for a secondhand 8800GTS 320MB. It just goes to show that some people go crazy when they have only one auction to keep an eye on.

600279 2007-10-13 22:33:00 If I had worked out a model for selling items on Trademe which guaranteed maximum return, do you think I would tell you what it was? Sorry, but when it comes to business, sometimes its better to keep it close to your chest. Having said that, I don't sell much stuff through Trademe, most of the buyers are after a bargin (including me  ).

Good luck though. I think you will need to experiment.

600280 2007-10-14 02:32:00 I agree.

I'll find out at 8.30 tonight how well 2-day $1 reserves work.

My suspicion is that all the extra attention may have other benefits besides the selling price of what I'm auctioning.
