| 600478 | 2007-10-11 08:22:00 | Seems to have been a slight lack of marital/financial communication here, but if that is the way you run your marriage/finances why not just go to the bank for another load of wedge and deal to your computer on the same terms. Sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander. Mrs T doesn't have to ASK to spend money and neither do I, but we always CONSULT or DISCUSS for significant expenditure, and we never borrow. If we can't afford it from our current accumulation of "wedge", we wait. Cheers Billy 8-{) I take it you borrowed to purchase your house. I say this because you seem to suggest borrowing is a bad thing. |

| 600482 | 2007-10-11 20:05:00 | I am solidly opposed to borrowing for "want it now" purchases. Our only borrowing was for the mortgages and we moved heaven and earth to pay those off as fast as we could. All "windfalls" or surpluses (including the sad ones such as inheritances) were dumped straight into the mortgage. As a result we saved massive amounts of interest, which at one stage was running at 18%+ on a second mortgage, about 22% on a third, and not much less on a first (those were the days!!). To fund post marriage renovations, I paid off my residual mortgage in full from savings then sold half the freehold of my house to my wife to be (Mrs B to B?) to take advantage of special loan rates and bonuses available though her Post Office Savings Account in the good old days when it was a benificent government department. That saved us a packet in interest. I took out my first mortgage in 1981 and we fully repaid the last one in 1993, all on ordinary wages. That was around $100,000 (plus interest) over 12 years, or an average repayment rate of less than $200 per week. You can't do that if you borrow money at usurious rates to purchase depreciating "assets" on a gotta have it NOW basis. Cheers Billy 8-{) |

Judicious borrowing to purchase land, property etc at the right times has been good for another friend of mine. |

We have a baby coming up, and are looking to sell the 2nd house, I just wanted to get a pc upgrade before the babe got everything...LOL |

Why fruit cakes? Is she specially fond of them? Or is there a baker in your extended family? (Not that I'm knocking them as a standard to judge by. I'm rather keen on them myself) Aw, Laura. It's not like you to miss a trick. :p Perhaps these quotes may provide a clue? ;) You young smoothie you! Maryann will love reading this. PJ:thumbs: She has just read it. You are at the top of her Xmas card list. PJ  |
