599823 2007-10-11 01:55:00 Unfortunately, I do (www.pressf1.co.nz)

ah hem, That would be a Creative Zen not a Microsoft Zune.

And back on topic. Still can't convince my dad who switches off his BB modem when not using the PC to get a firewall.

599825 2007-10-12 19:40:00 Sounds like my dad's PC. He refuses to have a firewall.

I don't have a firewall (other than the Windows firewall) installed and my machine is as clean as it should be.

Just for normal Internet surfing, I think an AV is good enough as long as you know what are you doing.

599826 2007-10-12 20:15:00 Just dont use P2P programs like Limewire.

And you'll be fine. I've been using XP's firewall for the last month or so.

No probs at all.

599827 2007-10-12 20:42:00 It's not stuff coming in I'm too worried about - my router has a firewall in it already, it's stuff that might try to get out that I'm interested in Agent_24 (57)

Because Comodo is too annoying?

It blocked too many things sometimes, (ie: DCC in Mirc, Windowsupdate site kept giving me errors, when or IF I went there) .

I knew Comodo was the prob it was the only firewall I had installed then .

Should be ok now I think, since I'm on broadband .

And the router/modem's got a firewall in it somewhere . And at least it took me less than a day to figure out how to add the ports for Mirc to it . And they stick .

And sending and receiving works fine .

With Comodo, I had to add like 6-7 rules, just to get (it usually didnt work lol) to work . BUT, yup after a while Comodo did get annoying, Version 2 . xx is too restrictive / tight . Thats good, but not if it blocks too many things .

When I ran Spybot and ad aware on my dad's win2k machine a while back I got a list of malware that was longer than my arm and that was just in Spybot. There was every Windowsupdatedisabller that was ever invented sitting in the list.
He doesn't leave his BB turned on and doesn't use the net for anything other than email and ordering library books and booking golf Tee off times. Mind you he has probably never ever scanned the computer for anything other than viruses (which he has had a few of) in the whole time he has had the PC starting with Win98SE.
