771338 2009-05-06 01:03:00 also on the e-mail side of things. I have never had any problems with spam with orcon's mail, mostly because I wised up & now don't sign up to a billion different sites while not being sure if they are dodgy or not :) Nictech (14748)
771339 2009-05-06 02:14:00 unfortunately, I'm not on the + network. What are the differences?

About $10.
Their own equipment versus Telecoms.

771340 2009-05-06 02:20:00 Been with Orcon since October 2006, never had a single unsolicited piece of spam, whereas before that I started getting heaps with Xtra. That could have been due to my email address being shown on a music forum. I take more care now. Terry Porritt (14)
771341 2009-05-06 02:28:00 Getting very sick with Xnet and now looking for a 'better' ISP (is there any???). However, I've narrowed down to:

1. Go back to Telecom (was with them since Broadband was first introduced in NZ), but their email is crap - full of spam emails;

2. Orcon looks great but don't know about their emails. Can some existing Orcon users share your experience with me?

Cheers

The problem with orcon, is that they have just put their prices up for bandwidth, when you go over your quota. It used to be $1, now it is $2 per GB, as of mid may 09. I wouldn't be surprised if other prices will rise too, as they are losing a lot of money at the moment, and are cutting staff, which could mean worse customer service in the future. With all the people jumping from Xnet, the people who remain, may end up with a better service in the long run, as their will be less people sharing the pipe. The good thing about orcon, is that they currently don't make you sign up to a year contract, which most other ISPs do.

Oh yes I forgot about the e-mail they sent me. This is going to go badly in my flat :(

771343 2009-05-06 09:05:00 Orcon. Especially if you want to change your phone line to them aswell because they have good phone & broadband packages. Jump on orcon's site & check what plans are available in your area

Orcon's broadband is great but I just wish I could get a decent fone service from them. I'm thinking of going to Telecom just to keep the family happy with the fone side of things.

I don't know if that will help you, last time I rang telecom, I was on the phone for 15 minutes trying to convince the computer that I didn't want to talk to it, and that I wanted to talk to a real person. I then had to wait 10 more minutes or so listening to some boring tune waiting for a rep to pick up :mad:.

Might just be my own experience though, but I doubt it...

771345 2009-05-06 10:46:00 Orcon all the way. wratterus (105)
771346 2009-05-06 10:57:00 I agree with linw, don't use any ISP's e-mail - use gmail and you will never have to worry about changing e-mail addresses again. decibel (11645)
771347 2009-05-06 10:58:00 What about after sales service?

Looks like Orcon has got a better deal; but what if, everybody starts to switch to Orcon and then, like Xnet, just falls apart. Whereas Telecom has got much stronger financial backing to overcome those difficult times.

It's a hard dicision to make.
