770908 2009-05-04 11:41:00 Haha, up to you, but you don't need to reinstall for that either - shuffling partitions around generally isn't an issue unless you're trying to shrink them (ext3 doesn't like it). Erayd (23)
770909 2009-05-04 11:43:00 well thats nice, but not overly helpful

id rather not reinstall but i cant figure it out, gpart wont let me, neither will the program gary suggested.

if you have another idea im more than willing to try

770911 2009-05-04 11:53:00 OK - and what partition layout do you want to end up with? Erayd (23)
770912 2009-05-04 11:55:00 the sda6 partition merged with the sda3

ive just noticed that my xp install seems to have disappeared, maybe because i have only ran super grub repair on the ubuntu install?

770913 2009-05-04 12:02:00 Correct me if I'm wrong but since SDA6 is under an extended partition you won't be able to merge it with SDA3 which is a seperate logical partition?

I think you will need to go into the menu.lst and re-add the Windows entry? Or fixmbr then configure bootloaders from windows?

770914 2009-05-04 12:03:00 Gotcha. Most sensible thing to do would be to copy anything you want off sda6 into sda3, then delete sda2 (which contains sda5 and sda6, so those will go too). Then create a new swap partition (sda4) at the *end* of the disk (at the end is important, you won't be able to expand sda3 otherwise), and expand sda3 to fit into the rest of the available space. 770915 2009-05-04 12:06:00 ok so theres nothin i want on sda6 so im all good to just delete the partition tree (or whatever you call it)

il give it a shot, cheers for the help!

770916 2009-05-04 12:07:00 OK - best of luck, and let us know how things go :D.

Edit: Oh and Windows will still be there, you just need to tell grub about it so that it appears in the boot menu.
