600543 2007-10-12 05:04:00 They are MP3s, I am pretty sure you can buy and download now from NZ if you want to.

Really? I thought only the U.S at the moment could use their new site.

600544 2007-10-12 05:39:00 I think that ripping a CD to your hard drive, iPOD or other mp3 player is well within reasonable usage and shouldn't be deemed as vioating copyright... I think the things to remember here are reasonable and fair use...

I reckon

haven't tried it myself but Herald gadget guy Peter Griffin reviewed the service just recently and gave it the thumbs up. :)

Speaking of the scum bag RIAA. This article has a good take on the situation.

Seems to depend a lot on what he is writing about. Although I can't say that I have tried using the Amazon music store for music. You have to download a plugin first but apparently it is fairly straight forward. The store only sells MP3s.

600549 2007-10-12 21:39:00 Not sure about CD ripping, but I could imagine getting interested in bodice ripping (with consent of course). John H (8)

That is illegal because you haven't purchased it.
The difference between ripping a song and a movie is that most people listen to the same song numerous times - and the file is smaller, DVDs you gernerally only watch once.
Movies themselves also cost more to produce and involve more people than the cost of producing a song.

Cheap movie rental downloads are going to start appearing online very soon probably with a 30 day limit before the DRM kicks in and renders the movie unwatchable. Hopefully the movies will also be available at a very reasonable price like $9.99 or something.

600552 2007-10-14 02:46:00 If they didn't pay Tom Cruise $20,000,000 for each movie they could be a lot cheaper to go and watch or buy !

I'd do Mission Impossible 4 for ooh I don't know 1 mil ?
