600256 2007-10-11 02:28:00 For items that don't go or are really old (such as a copy of DOS or a broken hard drive) work well on $1 reserve, but if it works, and is less than 5 years old, put a proper reserve on it. pcuser42 (130)
600257 2007-10-11 04:25:00 i've seen one guy selling decent systems on $1 reserve, with one day auctions.
think that they're bidding on a one off bargain. bidding usually goes to a reasonable amount, dunno if it covers his costs though.

problem with $1 reserve is you attract buyers with only $1. same thing for sellers who refuse to disclose the reserve - all it does is keeps people who can't afford it watching but doesn't help it sell.

and flooding the market with consecutive $1 auctions is a good way to sell alot of things for $1... just have start=reserve at your reserve price and a buynow at a good price not too far above the reserve (but not too close either;))

just promise me you won't be selling crappy systems with crappy video cards and crappy processors as "perfect for gaming" - drives me nuts

Never! People love my systems, but new PC sales have dropped lately. I think I need to design a new fleet of them.

My 'gaming' model has an 8800GTX and a Q6600 :D

as it should!

but doesn't kinda seem wrong to be buying a gaming rig for gaming, as a gamer? it'd kinda be like a boy racer not having actually done any of the work on their car.... the custom building is half of the hobby

What are you talking about? An XP1700+ with an Intel GMA 915 is the best gaming system you could get these days!!

It's a hobby - except for the few people that prefer to go and buy their expensive gaming PC, thus providing my income :)

I'm not a gamer, but I can't imagine buying a new PC pre-built because I never have and never will.

Well, it's kinda stupid to put a $1 reserve on a high-value car in NZ. Not many people here can spend that kind of money within a week.

600264 2007-10-12 01:28:00 I wouldn't pull out of a $1 reserve auction if it went badly. I had one recently where I stupidly put it on at 2.30am, so nobody was awake when it finished and it went for $100 (worth $170 or so).

However, I did once accidentally put the buynow price of a PC to $1 as well, and that sold within about a minute! The buyer understood and I didn't sell it for $1.

600265 2007-10-12 02:39:00 If you REALLY need to get rid of something (old clothes, Windows ME for example) $1 reserve ensures a quick sale. pcuser42 (130)
