Not wanting to mention apple (Ooops) or anyone in particular, but a very polite, prolific poster, gentleman rarks up people here more than Dean f does . Should we ban him . No - all types of people, all types of attitude add interest to the forum . Block him if you don't like what he says . Ken |

The Crown got Maori to fight for her in WW1 (approx 50+ years after they had the land taken off them) by promising to give some of their land back. It didn't happen No I don't need to in relation to repatriation after WW1 as you have bought up yet a different issue. |

There was some Maoris in Pioneer battalion. Granted some part Maoris weasled their way into some frontline units in France |

I was wondering the other night about close up after the 'News', now I didnt watch it, however the shorts were about those arrested under the anti-terrorist laws and close up were about to do an expose'.... Now isnt that stupid to air to NZ audience any info, wrong or right, before this goes to court?.... Where will they get an unbiases jury if close up has already spouted (media enhanced) info concerning this individual?..... |

Juries are not expected to be uninformed or unbiased when they are empanelled - but they are expected to deliberate with only the evidence allowed in court. The requirement that a verdict is arrived at by twelve jurors unanimously is the principle protection against bias. |

| 601592 | 2007-10-17 23:46:00 | I know the law Deane (well to a degree), I was inquiring if others thought it silly that the media could influence a jury before its brought to court....as in this case I would imagine any number would already have an opinion due to the media's representation of the facts...... Surely only the police have ALL the evidence, I just got a little annoyed because now the minority groups with half the info will be bleating on not knowing all the fact..... another 2c rant...lol |

It is common knowledge that in parts of NZ white people are made quite unwelcome. That is a simple statement of fact. |

Well, the defence have the evidence too - through disclosure. The prosecution cannot withhold evidence that they plan to use in Court from the defence. But you're essentially right. Individuals and groups will form their opinions and bleat without knowing all of the facts. I guess that includes the more extreme conservative minorities as well as the liberal ones though... |
