771221 2009-05-05 05:00:00 Is there anyone in the Christchurch area (Avonhead) that has a ADSL2+ modem I could borrow for testing? I want to see if the sync rates, and throughput rates I'm currently getting will improve or not with a different modem, or if the problem lies with bad wiring or at telecom's end.

Currently getting sync speeds of 6500/945, with throughput of only 2.5MBit down. Telecom advise me that I'm 1589m (1.5km) from the exchange, and should be getting at least 15-20MBit down!

That advice would be easy for you. Drop a modem of the side of your boat. Possibly in the Carribean.

Leave a Map on parchment so we can go looking. :thanks

Possibly. Except I have never seen a penguin using a computer or being a pirate. You also could be on a houseboat moored off shore for that matter. Pick up the anchor and untie the cables, ropes or whatever and get yourself to the penguin place of your choice. Arctic or Antarctic.

771227 2009-05-05 07:42:00 my boat is more than cold enough for a penguin, and im pretty sure penguins would get eaten in the artic, but then i spose santa would protect me hueybot3000 (3646)

There's lots of factors that can affect it, not just distance.
Traffic, your plan all sorts....

I just did, and I got one free!

Be interesting to see what they find...
