770862 2009-05-04 07:44:00 Just noticed a "System Restore" option in the newest CCleaner.
Anyone tried using this function?

770863 2009-05-04 07:48:00 Yup it is a new feature and no havent tried using SR in it

Probably do the same as using it from the menu. I dont usually use it anyway.

If I want to remove whatever, I disable it.

770864 2009-05-04 08:36:00 Just had a look at it - it removes windows system restore points, you can select the ones you want to remove.

One way of freeing up a bit of space I suspect

770865 2009-05-04 08:57:00 I think windows can already do that, just deletes restore points really.

Clears up a bit of space but I wouldn't remove all restore points, just to be safe!

770866 2009-05-04 09:59:00 By default Windows removes all but the last restore point. :)

I haven't seen this feature yet, maybe I need to run CCleaner more often :p

So what are "system checkpoints" ? - My laptop has lots to choose from, when I check out System Restore.

770868 2009-05-05 09:34:00 System checkpoints are the system restore points created automatically. :) pcuser42 (130)
770869 2009-05-05 09:56:00 What System Restore does is has a certain amount of space allocated for restore points, once that space is used it dumps off the oldest ones making room for new - as from the Vista FAQ:

To store restore points, you need at least 300 megabytes (MB) of free space on each hard disk that has System Protection turned on. System Restore might use up to 15 percent of the space on each disk. As the amount of space fills up with restore points, System Restore will delete older restore points to make room for new ones.

In XP you can easily adjust the amount of space allowed for Restore points. There are ways to adjust the amount of storage in Vista, BUT because of the way Vista Works ( or doesn't Sometimes) its a bit dangerous to adjust it as it can cause restore points to corrupt.

Ccleaners New Feature simply manually removes restore points you want.

770870 2009-05-10 06:22:00 To clear the system restore files, disable system restore, reboot, all the system restore files will be removed. Enable system restore again (if you wish!) and make the first restore point. mzee (3324)
770871 2009-05-10 06:57:00 The thing about that is you don't get to choose what restore points to remove and what not to... Blam (54)
