770664 2009-05-03 09:33:00 Hi All,
Im wanting to get a bridge to bridge wireless network setup from my place to a mates place 3km away.
I can see his house (im on a hill) and theres little to no objects in the way.

What hardware will i need to get this achieved?
I need to know stuff like the antenna gain, access point watt output,if i need an amplifier for it etc, doesnt worry me if im on 2.4 or 5ghz.
I plan to mount the antenna's on a fixed pole,
cheap is good, the PoE models of antenna i've looked at seem a bit pricey so running coax for a few meters is ok instead of cat5,

I've been trying to find some sort of calculator where i can punch in the distance and it'll let me know what the specs of the hardware i need.

Thanks in advance for any help,

770665 2009-05-05 00:00:00 I got very generic email response from snappernet.co.nz giving me the most expensice solution they could think of, if i could work out the minimum specs for the equipment i could source my gear elsewhere... Tricks (14877)

SnapperNet don't sell to the general public and would have just quoted you RRP on everything.
If you talk to someone that is a dealer with SnapperNet I'm sure you could get the gear cheaper :D

I haven't used much in the way of consumer-grade gear for those sort of distances but Ethernet Direct (www.ethernetdirect.com) have some factastic industrial-grade gear for 1 - 20km ranges. Expect to pay through the nose though (probably $2k or so for a bridge & antenna) inphinity (7274)
