600768 2007-10-11 23:27:00 i was just reading this article on the nzherald website:

www.nzherald.co.nz

now i thought in NZ you can have sex once your 16 years old?

If this story is true,I've seen lots of 16 year old girls with 18,19,20 year old boyfriends.

600769 2007-10-11 23:38:00 Obviously you cant, since the age has changed since.

And she was under his care at the time.

Which doesnt mean, he was the b/f, or she was the g/f.

Someone who's 16 maybe going with someone older.

It doesnt mean they're having sex tho.

There's a difference.

600770 2007-10-11 23:59:00 Sexual Intercourse with a Girl Under Care and Protection:

It is illegal for anyone to have sex with a girl under the age of 20 years, who is not his wife and is living with him as a member of his family and is under his care or protection, whether the girl consents or not .
Maximum penalty is 7 years in prison .

Pretty dumb really but probably to stop the sort of thing those weird mormons with multiple child brides do .

600771 2007-10-12 00:17:00 what does "under the care" or "protection" mean? so if you have a girlfriend living with you does that mean your protecting her or she's under the care of you or not? markh (12164)
600772 2007-10-12 00:23:00 what does "under the care" or "protection" mean? so if you have a girlfriend living with you does that mean your protecting her or she's under the care of you or not?

NO. It means like, in this case, she was a student from overseas, and she was living there, while she was in NZ.

She was under the care of the people who live at that address. While she is living / residing in NZ.

It has NOTHING to do, with being anyone's girlfriend. Or boyfriend.

No, it doesn't include a girlfriend or partner .

It means overseas or NZ students boarding with you, foster children, your partner's children, extended family members that you are taking care of, etc .

600774 2007-10-12 00:54:00 Come on, he was 58 and she was 17. He was old enough to be her grandfather ***.

The article didn't say she was raped or anything, right?

600775 2007-10-12 01:05:00 What a whore . Come on, he was 58 and she was 17 . He was old enough to be her grandfather *** .

Whore .

The article didn't say she was raped or anything, right?

Just because it wasn't rape doesn't mean that she was entirely willing . She may have been too scared to deny him sex in case he booted her out of the home and she had nowhere else to go .

Regardless, the filthy bastard should have known better . That is the exact reason why that law is there in the first place .

600776 2007-10-12 01:08:00 I guess Foxy could be right.

That perverted old freak is a perverted old freak, after all. Kinda reminds me of Herbert from Family Guy. Only this time this guy's straight.

600777 2007-10-12 01:53:00 perverted old freak,

Rather a large age difference but where do you draw the line?

Not this instance perhaps as we don't know the full story, but in my family it seems to be rather common to have the older/younger partners.

2 of my cousins married older men, one a lot older.
My husband is older.
My sons girlfriend is older.
1 of my cousins married a much younger guy.

Are we all perverts or married to perverts then?
