772285 2009-05-08 13:25:00 I've finally got around to upgrading from 1gig to 3gig ram.
Installed it tonight and computer wont boot immediately after turning on, the lights on laptop come on etc but nothing shows on screen...

If i take the new 2gig ram out it boots fine...

am I missing something out here?

Wore antistatic while installing so yeah :)

Laptop is running Vista, with 1gig ram, but want to change it to 3gig.

Or see if it will work with just your new RAM.

Swaped it around...didnt work
the new ram on its own did work...

is there a reason for that?

Cheers

772288 2009-05-08 22:28:00 Are they exact same specs? the_bogan (9949)
772289 2009-05-08 22:35:00 I dunno,
What i did was contact Ramking and told them i wanted ram etc and i didnt know the specs etc, they gave me an program to run and tells you the specs, so I did that then told them and they said ok, you need this ram, so I brought what they recommended....

772290 2009-05-08 22:35:00 Some laptops will only work with 1 or 2 gigs maximum, check it out on the manufacturers website. feersumendjinn (64)
772291 2009-05-09 00:24:00 I was told mine could go up to 4gig of ram, but since I already had 1gig i thought 3gig would be more than enough rather than buying 2x 2gig...

computer is speedy now with 2gig, so maybe will leave it..if its a matter of parts not matching...but if its a different fault thats stopping it then I want to fix it...

Is there anything I can do to show u settings etc?

772292 2009-05-09 00:36:00 Whats the brand/model of the laptop? Speedy Gonzales (78)
772293 2009-05-09 04:19:00 Could possibly be the timings incompatible.

What Clock speed RAM is it?
