2007-10-19 02:46:00 | I recently bought a Dell D830 laptop off GraysOnline. It was 'resealed'. I checked the warranty at support.dell.com and it said that the laptop was manufactured one month ago, and the three year onsite warranty had just begun. However, today (two weeks later) it now says that there are NO warranties or support plans associated with this product. I rang Dell, and the lady on the other end told me that Dell had deleted the warranty because that's what they do when people buy from GraysOnline, and just kept repeating herself. What can I do? Without a warranty it's not worth what I paid for it. It's not fair that I should buy something with a three year warranty and have that taken away a week later... Dell said that GraysOnline should have told me that they do this, but there is nothing in the bidders agreement that mentions this practice.

2007-10-19 02:49:00 | Sounds like your warranty was Dell'd.:groan: :groan: | R2x1 (4628) | |
2007-10-19 02:50:00 | Sounds like your warranty was Dell'd. :groan: :groan: I've actually just had a very good experience with Dell warranty support - a replacement part was shipped to me overnight, with minimal hassle. They even included a return courier ticket, which was unexpected.

2007-10-19 03:00:00 | I rang GraysOnline, and they said that it was in the sale overview that there was no warranty on Dell laptops. I might be a bit screwed here. | george12 (7) | |

Uh oh - do you still have a printout or screenshot of the sale overview? Otherwise you don't really have a leg to stand on. |

2007-10-19 03:02:00 | GraysOnline is an auction site and i doubt any thing would be sold with warranty unless speficly meantioned. all goods will be reguarded as 2nd hand by most manafactures and will adjust warranties to suit. some companies are sweet and will honour manafactures warranties reguardless of owner. others will not. | tweak'e (69) | |
2007-10-19 03:04:00 | I didn't read that part of sale overview. I went by what the Dell warranty checker said. | george12 (7) | |
2007-10-19 04:01:00 | It is arguable that Dell have no grounds to refuse to honour their warranty, though the devil may lie in the fine print. The Disputes Tribunal might just rule in your favour though, because consumer law in NZ does have teeth. I'd check and see what you can find out about both sides of this and if it looks promising, the mention of Disputes Tribunal make make Dell suddenly decide to "make an exception". They are not facing any additional risk over any other sale process. Cheers Billy 8-{)
