601887 2007-10-15 20:07:00 Hi All

I am getting a shade ticked off with the amount of crap appearing in my letterbox, and i am thinking of putting a "No Circulars" sticker on it

However i don't want to stop either of the local free papers being delivered, are they classed as junk mail?
I do enjoy reading them and as they are made of newsprint they burn really well to

Then again i also don't want to stop getting leaflets from the holy trinity (Placemakers, Mitre 10 and Hammer Hardware), but thats a loss i can handle

601888 2007-10-15 20:15:00 Registered newspapers which carry public notices are not classified as 'junk mail' and will continue to be delivered.
Magazine type publications which some areas receive free, will be classified as 'junk' and not delivered.
Pamphlets such as you describe are available from the Placemaker and Mitre 10 stores.

601889 2007-10-15 20:43:00 It will solve some of the problem but not all. We get circulars lumped in with the free newspapers, sometimes there is just as much circulars as there is paper. I have tried getting one of the free papers stopped but apart from promises, nothing has happened after 4 requests.

Also talked to one of the delivery kids when I saw them putting junk mail in the box. Pointed to the no circular sign and got the reply 'Oh, so that's what a circular is'.

Another gripe is the c*** delivered by the postie addressed to the 'householder'. Apparently they have to deliver this rubbish, even though it is not addressed to any particular address. Seems like fighting a losing battle sometimes.

601890 2007-10-15 20:46:00 Junk Mail is unsolicited mail (you didn't ask for it).
You could put a sign on your letterbox saying 'No unsolicited mail, Addressed Mail only'.
That way only addressed mail and subscribed material should land in your letterbox.

This is better than 'no junk mail' as junk mail deliverers can rationalise that
their junk mail is not in fact junk mail and you really need to hear about their great offer etc...

Failing that I had a neighbour who put something like 'No unsolicited mail, you risk prosecution under the xyz act 1984 if you persist'
Sorry can't remember the name of the Act (law) that he cited but it worked.

601891 2007-10-15 21:01:00 I have one of the better pre-made notices on my box... "No advertising material. Thank you".

One day I had the delightful pleasure of nabbing a woman who'd just stuck a leaflet into my box. I took the piece of crap out and ran after her saying, "excuse me! I think you've made a mistake. You accidently put this into my mailbox." She looked at me as if I was from another planet. I elaborated "It was obviously a mistake" I said as I handed it to her. "My box is clearly marked 'No advertising' so this was obviously put in unintentionally, right?" With that I turned away. She seemed flabbergasted and hopefully seriously embarrassed!

Delisimo!

601892 2007-10-15 22:47:00 Doesn't work on real estate agents, Pricks are too arrogant to give a toss, Even the one I rang tried to get on my case about being pissed off, damn fool was about 10 houses up from where I was standing putting crap in more mail boxes.

I told him I could see him, He turned around and gave me the finger, I had to laugh at the audacity.

I don't know how others react, But I just won't ever do bizzo with a company that doesn't respect my wishes.

Professionals and Ray White in Wanganui can get the funk up them.

If you buy the No Junkmail sign from Mitre 10 they have ones that say "except Mitre 10" on them. Atleast that way you miss out on one of the holy trinity :D

601895 2007-10-16 02:15:00 People put things in your mailboxes?

That's a federal offense here.

The US Mail frowns upon people putting things into private mailboxes and it's punishable by prison and sever financial penalties.

The only person who can open or take out or put in objects is the owner of the mailbox (the addressed one) and the US Postal carrier.

All objects must bear a US Postal stamp on it too, either uncanceled or canceled.
